Editorially revised on 9 October 2026.
Railway Group D preparation should connect the official Level-1 scheme to the questions you practise and the errors you review. Buying a large question bank or following an old timetable is not enough if it covers the wrong recruitment cycle. This guide uses the clearly identified CEN 09/2025 detailed notice and reviewed amendments as a preparation reference. It does not announce an open application window, promise selection or claim that the cited documents exhaust every later update.
The study worksheets and score example below are original illustrations. Use them to connect the official requirements to your own preparation record, checking each resource against the cycle you are targeting.
Identify the CEN before choosing material
The official reference is the CEN 09/2025 detailed Level-1 notice, dated January 2026. The CEN identifier and notice year are different. Keep CEN 08/2024 material and updates separate unless you have checked their relevance to this scheme. A title saying “Group D 2026” cannot establish which notice the resource follows.
Record the CEN, responsible authority, document date and any amendments you checked. Later individual instructions and official updates matter. The older Secunderabad index announced migration to a unified site in August 2026; use its official onward navigation when checking current communications. This preparation guide is a dated reference rather than a live recruitment-status service.
The verified CBT reference
The cited scheme has 100 one-mark questions in 90 minutes, or 120 minutes for candidates eligible for a scribe. Wrong answers deduct one-third of a mark. Its indicative distribution is science 25, mathematics 25, reasoning 30 and general awareness/current affairs 20. Science is based on class-10 CBSE physics, chemistry and life science. Mathematics includes topics such as percentages, mensuration and trigonometry; reasoning includes data interpretation and sufficiency.
Read the complete syllabus rather than treating those examples as an exhaustive list. The notice permits a second CBT if the administration decides to hold one. Do not infer that every future Level-1 scheme must have the same number of stages or questions.
| Study area | Original planning action |
|---|---|
| Maths | Map each official topic to a worked example, practice set and error note. |
| Reasoning | Record the rule used, the point of confusion and a checked solution. |
| Science | Separate concept understanding from facts you need to recall. |
| Awareness | Keep dated notes and distinguish current facts from older material. |
The table is a study method, not a substitute syllabus or a predicted paper distribution beyond the official indicative scheme above.
Check amendments before using application details
The reviewed corrigenda cover vacancy presentation, disability suitability, dates and scribe documents. They did not change the cited CBT baseline, but the original annexures alone are not enough for an actual application. The March closing-date amendment extended the application closing date to 9 March 2026; that is historical, not an invitation to apply now.
The July scribe-document amendment corrected annexure references and replaced a form. Use the applicable amended instructions when relevant. Do not copy a form from a preparation book because its heading looks familiar.
For eligibility, the detailed notice's annexure lists qualification alternatives including 10th, ITI/equivalent and NCVT NAC, alongside post-dependent medical and disability suitability. Do not reduce this to “ITI always required” or treat this article as a determination of your eligibility. Check the exact post, reference dates, category conditions, amended suitability and your supporting records.
Build a syllabus-to-resource ledger
Create one row per official topic, using the wording in the notice. Record the chapter or resource, what you have already learned, a practice source and the next check. A row is not complete merely because you watched a video. You should be able to explain a representative solution and identify where you still need help.
Inspect the resource's cycle and scheme before paying for it. A package covering railway examinations broadly may include material outside your target. That is not automatically a problem, but you should know which parts support your syllabus. The exam-prep hub and mock-test catalogue are resource entry points; they do not establish your eligibility or an expected recruitment outcome.
Use a diagnostic set to find the next task
Start with a manageable, syllabus-matched set and record more than the total score. Mark each error as concept, recall, calculation, reading, method selection or time allocation. Add a note on whether you guessed. A guessed correct answer may still need review because it does not demonstrate understanding.
Imagine a fictional learner, Ritu, answers a mixed practice set and notices repeated errors on percentage questions. Her next action is to review the underlying relationship, solve a few examples without a timer and explain the method aloud. She then uses a fresh set to check whether she can apply it. Repeating the identical questions would partly test memory of the answer rather than transfer of the method.
For reasoning, the next action might be tracing why an assumed rule was wrong. For science, it might be distinguishing two concepts that were confused. For awareness, it might be checking the date and source of a fact. These are examples of error-driven study, not universal daily allocations.
Work through a raw-score example
Using the cited one-mark and one-third deduction rule, a fictional 100-question practice attempt has 60 correct, 24 wrong and 16 unanswered. Its raw score is:
60 − (24 ÷ 3) = 52 marks.
The arithmetic is an original illustration. It is not an official result, normalised score, cutoff forecast or proof that the learner would qualify. An exercise score can help you inspect accuracy, but recruitment decisions depend on the actual notice and process. Minimum qualifying marks and the score needed for shortlisting are different questions; do not treat a minimum threshold as a guaranteed shortlist.
Review the 24 wrong answers. If many came from blind guessing, inspect the reasoning behind each attempt rather than adopting a fixed target number of questions to answer. If errors came from known methods performed carelessly, practise checking the relevant steps. A generic “attempt everything” rule ignores the deduction and your actual evidence.
Plan revision around retained learning
Keep an error log with the topic, why the answer failed, corrected reasoning and a later check. Do not copy a solution without explaining the mistake. A useful revision session revisits the method, then tests it on a different question. Retain a small set of difficult examples as prompts for explanation rather than a pile of unreviewed screenshots.
For current affairs, retain dates and credible sources so that an old fact is not presented as current. For science, organise concepts by the official scope and clarify vocabulary before drilling isolated facts. For mathematics and reasoning, keep units, assumptions and intermediate steps visible until accuracy is stable. Speed practice should not conceal a method you do not understand.
Keep physical and document stages separate
The cited recruitment includes an applicable qualifying PET, document verification and medical examination after the CBT process. Exemptions and post-specific conditions must be checked in the notice. Use the separate CEN 09/2025 PET guide for its notice-reading and readiness checklist. This article does not prescribe an exercise routine or determine personal medical fitness.
Maintain accurate education, category and other required records privately. Compare names, dates and document conditions with the official instructions before a verification stage. If a discrepancy exists, use the legitimate correction or clarification process. Do not alter a record or invent a qualification because a practice score looks promising.
Prepare for the actual exam communication
Check your own official call letter and instructions for the venue, time, permitted items, identity documents and any applicable scribe process. A social-media timetable or another candidate's call letter is not yours. Save the official communication and plan travel from its actual details. Do not assume that an old admit-card checklist applies unchanged.
After a mock, select one or two specific improvements for the next session. After an official update, revise the relevant planning row and retain its source. This separates preparation progress from recruitment status and helps prevent an old resource from controlling a new decision.
Common questions
Is CEN 09/2025 the same as a 2025 application window?
No. The cited detailed notice is dated January 2026. The identifier alone does not establish registration dates or current availability.
Is ITI always mandatory for Group D?
Do not use that blanket rule. Check the qualification alternatives and post-specific conditions in the applicable notice and amendments.
Does reaching minimum qualifying marks guarantee a shortlist?
No. Read the relevant shortlisting and selection conditions. A practice raw score is not an official or normalised result.
Can I use an older question bank?
Check every section against the scheme and syllabus you are targeting. Useful older questions can support learning, but their cover title does not establish current pattern accuracy.
