The Kerala Public Service Commission (Kerala PSC) recruits for a wide range of posts in the Kerala Government Service, from Plus Two-level posts to higher secondary teachers. If you understand how Kerala PSC publishes notifications and runs selections, you can track these jobs systematically. This guide explains that system using Kerala PSC's own website and notifications, checked on 9 October 2026, and walks through a real notification as a worked example.
How Kerala PSC publishes jobs
Kerala PSC publishes recruitment notifications in batches through the Extraordinary Gazette, and lists them on its Notifications page. Each post gets a category number (for example, Cat. No. 159/2026), which you use for applying, exam schedules, results and ranked lists.
Recent 2026 batches listed on the site:
| Gazette date | Category numbers | Last date to apply |
|---|---|---|
| 30 September 2026 | 151/2026 to 161/2026 | 4 November 2026 |
| 31 August 2026 | 130/2026 to 150/2026 | 7 October 2026 |
| 30 July 2026 | 73/2026 to 128/2026 | 2 September 2026 |
| 30 June 2026 | 39/2026 to 72/2026 | 5 August 2026 |
| 30 May 2026 | 23/2026 to 38/2026 | 1 July 2026 |
So new notifications appear regularly through the year, each with its own deadline. The practical habit is to check the Notifications page at least once a month.
What the latest batch included
The 30 September 2026 batch (Cat. No. 151–161/2026) included, among others: Draftsman Grade II in the Kerala Ports Service (Hydrographic Survey Wing); Forest Boat Driver in Forest & Wildlife; Higher Secondary School Teacher (Statistics), a special recruitment for Scheduled Tribe candidates only; Draftsman Grade II / Town Planning Surveyor Grade II in the Local Self Government Department; Police Constable Driver / Woman Police Constable Driver in Kerala Police; and Peon/Watchman posts filled from among part-time employees.
How to apply
- Create a One Time Registration (OTR) profile on the Kerala PSC website. The OTR instructions page links to sign-up, login and detailed instructions. Notifications ask candidates who have an Aadhaar card to add it as ID proof in their profile.
- Apply through your profile for the specific category number before the last date. The notification for Cat. No. 159/2026 states that no application fee is required.
- Submit a confirmation if a written, OMR or online test is held. Under the notification terms, only candidates who confirm in their profile within the stated period can download the admission ticket, and applications without confirmation are rejected.
- Watch your profile and phone. Kerala PSC sends messages through your profile and registered mobile number, including requests to upload documents.
Reading a notification: what each field means
Kerala PSC notifications follow a standard structure:
| Field | What to check |
|---|---|
| Department and name of post | Make sure it is the post you want; many posts have similar names |
| Scale of pay | The pay scale for the post, as notified |
| Number of vacancies | Existing vacancies; some say "anticipated" or are for a specific community only |
| Method of appointment | Direct recruitment, by transfer, or special recruitment for a category |
| Age limit | Given as an age range and a birth-date window; follow the dates |
| Qualifications | Educational, technical and sometimes physical requirements |
| Ranked list validity | For many posts, at least one year and up to three years, as stated in the notification |
| Last date | The final date and time for online applications |
Worked example: Cat. No. 159/2026 (Police Constable Driver)
This was a "1st NCA notification", meaning it was open only to candidates from one community (LC/AI) for vacancies earmarked for that community that remained unfilled because of a shortage of candidates on an earlier list. Key terms from the notification:
- Pay: ₹31,100–₹66,800. Vacancies: 2 (for LC/AI candidates).
- Age: 20–35; born between 2 January 1991 and 1 January 2006 (both included). Upper age relaxed to 45 for ex-servicemen; other relaxations do not apply to this selection.
- Education: Plus Two pass or equivalent.
- Licence: valid licences for motorcycle with gear, LMV, heavy passenger and heavy goods vehicles, with driver's badge, held throughout the selection; driving proficiency tested in a practical test.
- Physical standards: minimum height 168 cm (men) and 157 cm (women); for men, chest of at least 81 cm with 5 cm expansion; specified vision without glasses.
- Last date: 4 November 2026, midnight.
Illustrative eligibility checks against this notification:
| Candidate | Born | Community | Result |
|---|---|---|---|
| A | 10 March 1995 | LC/AI | Within the birth-date window; eligible on age |
| B | 15 December 1990 | LC/AI | Born before 2 January 1991; over age (unless an ex-serviceman within the 45-year limit) |
| C | 10 March 1995 | Another community | Not eligible: this NCA notification is restricted to LC/AI |
| D | 10 March 1995 | LC/AI, but only an LMV licence | Not eligible: heavy vehicle licences with badge are required |
The lesson applies to every notification: check the community, birth-date window and post-specific requirements before applying, not after.
Types of selection you will see
- General recruitment for a district or the whole state, open to all eligible candidates.
- Special recruitment for particular categories, such as Scheduled Tribes (as in Cat. No. 155/2026).
- NCA notifications for specific communities, as in the example above.
- Recruitment by transfer or from among existing employees, such as Peon/Watchman from part-time employees.
Preparing for Kerala PSC exams
- Use Kerala PSC's own material. The website has sections for post-wise syllabus, previous question papers, answer keys and the exam schedule.
- Plan around the exam calendar. Confirmation windows and admission ticket dates are published in the exam schedule; missing a confirmation can end your application.
- Keep documents ready. You may be asked to upload proof of qualifications, age and community at any stage.
Checklist
- Create or update your OTR profile, with Aadhaar as ID proof if you have it.
- Check the Notifications page monthly and note category numbers that interest you.
- For each, verify method of appointment, community restrictions, birth-date window and qualifications.
- Apply before the last date and submit confirmation if an exam is announced.
- Track exam schedules, short lists and ranked lists by category number.
Kerala government jobs are reachable through a predictable system once you learn it. Register once, read each notification field by field, and keep track of category numbers and deadlines.
