Pune has a large technology job market, from IT services and product companies to engineering centres that write software for vehicles and machines. This guide covers what official sources say about the sector, where offices are, which employer types suit which skills, and a practical plan to search and compare offers.

What official sources say
We could not find an official, Pune-only count of IT jobs or companies. The closest official data is state-level. The Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) information technology page, last updated in April 2026, says:
- Maharashtra accounted for 21% of India's IT exports in 2023-24.
- MIDC has developed 49 public IT parks in the state, with about Rs. 22,000 crore of investment and about 3.1 lakh jobs.
- The Mumbai-Pune Knowledge Corridor "is fast emerging as the IT hub of the country".
These figures cover all of Maharashtra, not Pune alone. Use them as background, and judge your own prospects from current openings in your skill area.

The best-known cluster is the Rajiv Gandhi Infotech Park in Hinjawadi. Two official company addresses show how it appears in postings and offer letters:
- KPIT Technologies gives its registered office as Plot No. 17, Rajiv Gandhi Infotech Park Phase III, MIDC-SEZ, Hinjawadi, Pune.
- Tata Technologies lists its investor-relations address as Plot No. 25, Rajiv Gandhi Infotech Park, Hinjawadi, Pune.
Not every employer is in Hinjawadi, so always read the exact address in the posting. If a company has more than one Pune office, ask which one your team sits in.
Check the commute early
Pune Metro's official route map lists two corridors: Corridor 1 from PCMC to Swargate, and Corridor 2 from Hill View Park Car Depot and Vanaz to Ramwadi. When we checked in October 2026, Hinjawadi was not among the stations listed on that map. If your office is in Hinjawadi, plan around company transport, buses or your own vehicle, and check the latest status of other lines with the operators before choosing housing.

The last row matters in Pune. MIDC's automobile sector page calls Pune "the largest auto hub in India", and engineering software firms operate here. KPIT, for example, says it specializes in "embedded software, AI & digital solutions for the automotive and mobility industry". Tata Technologies lists engineering and R&D, embedded systems and software among its services.

Training routes
If you need a structured upskilling course, C-DAC lists Pune among the cities where it runs its own training centres. Check the current course list, eligibility and fees on its website before applying.

A practical Pune search plan
1. Define one target role. Write it as a title plus stack, such as "QA engineer, Selenium and API testing" or "embedded software engineer, C and AUTOSAR basics". A clear target makes every later step faster.
2. Build a list of 20 employers. Mix at least two employer types. For each, use the official careers page and filter for Pune. Record the exact office location.
3. Match your resume to the most common skills. Read 10 job descriptions and note the skills that appear most often. Make sure your top resume bullets prove those skills with a project, number or result you can explain.

5. Review every two weeks. If you get no screening calls, change the resume or the target, not just the number of applications.

Suppose you have two offers for similar roles. These figures are invented for the example.

Pay after commute cost: Offer A gives 60,000 − 4,000 = Rs. 56,000. Offer B gives 57,000 − 2,000 = Rs. 55,000. Offer A is ahead by Rs. 1,000 a month.
Time spent commuting each week: Offer A is 60 × 2 × 5 = 600 minutes, or 10 hours. Offer B is 40 × 2 × 3 = 240 minutes, or 4 hours. Offer B saves 6 hours a week.

Check before you accept
- Verify the employer. The recruiter's email domain should match the official website, and the role should appear on the official careers page.
- Never pay a fee for a job. Report online fraud on the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal.
- Read the payslip structure. Maharashtra levies profession tax on salaries. The MahaGST profession tax rate schedule gives the current rates; expect it as a small deduction on your payslip.
- Confirm work location and attendance in writing. A hybrid label without a stated number of office days is not enough to plan housing around.
Frequently asked questions
Is Hinjawadi the only IT area in Pune? No. It is the best-known park, but offices exist elsewhere too. Check the exact address in each posting.
Should a fresher choose a services firm or a startup? Training and early responsibility vary widely between employers of both kinds. Ask each one how new joiners are trained, assigned to projects and reviewed in their first year.
