The UP Police constable recruitment that matters in 2026 is the Constable (Civil Police) and equivalent posts, Direct Recruitment-2025, run by the Uttar Pradesh Police Recruitment and Promotion Board (UPPRPB). Its advertisement is dated 31 December 2025, the written examination was held in June 2026, and the physical efficiency test (PET) was under way in October 2026.
This guide sets out what the board's own notices say about each stage, explains the physical standards and the normalised cut-offs, and gives a practical strategy for candidates still in the process and for those preparing for a future cycle. It does not estimate vacancies for the next recruitment.
Checked against notices on uppbpb.gov.in on 9 October 2026. The notices are in Hindi; the summaries below are our translations.
Where the 2025 recruitment stands
| Stage | What the board's notices say |
|---|---|
| Advertisement | Dated 31 December 2025 |
| Written examination | Held on 8, 9 and 10 June 2026, in six shifts |
| Result and shortlist (notice dated 31 July 2026) | Marks normalised across shifts; 76,184 candidates, about 2.33 times the category-wise advertised posts, called for document verification and physical standard test (DV/PST) |
| DV/PST | Proposed from 17 August 2026 |
| PET | Proposed for September 2026 and continuing in October: a notice of 8 October 2026 follows earlier PET notices dated 24 and 29 September and 1, 5 and 7 October 2026, and moves sessions set for 8–10 October at the 11th Battalion PAC, Sitapur to venues in Lucknow on 9–11 October because of rain and waterlogging |
| Final result | Not yet published; the board says normalised written marks will be shown after the final selection result |
The original advertisement was no longer on the board's notice page when we checked, so read it from your application records or the board's website for the exact number of posts, age limits and qualification. As a rough guide, 76,184 at "about 2.33 times" the posts implies something in the region of 33,000 advertised posts; treat that as an approximation, not an official figure.
How the written examination was used
The board's 31 July notice sets out two thresholds:
- Minimum qualifying marks: 30% for unreserved candidates, 25% for EWS and OBC candidates, and 20% for SC and ST candidates.
- Shortlist cut-off: among those who qualified, candidates were called for DV/PST in order of merit and reservation, at about 2.33 times the posts in each category. The normalised cut-offs were:
| Category | Cut-off | Women's cut-off |
|---|---|---|
| Unreserved | 258.03661 | 255.84346 |
| EWS | 247.93434 | 247.35926 |
| OBC | 251.63020 | 249.27083 |
| SC | 239.34407 | 236.31995 |
| ST | 220.10639 | 211.47988 |
All eligible candidates in the home guard, dependants of freedom fighters and ex-servicemen categories were called. The notice also says that if too few candidates in a category succeed at DV/PST, more will be called on merit.
What this means for you: the minimum qualifying percentage is far below the cut-off that actually decided who moved forward. In a future cycle, plan to score well above the minimum; reaching it alone is unlikely to be enough.
Physical standards (PST)
From the board's DV/PST notice:
| Men | Women | |
|---|---|---|
| Height (General, OBC, SC) | 168 cm | 152 cm |
| Height (ST) | 160 cm | 147 cm |
| Chest (General, OBC, SC) | 79 cm unexpanded, at least 84 cm expanded | Not applicable |
| Chest (ST) | 77 cm unexpanded, at least 82 cm expanded | Not applicable |
| Weight | Not specified in this notice | Minimum 40 kg |
A minimum chest expansion of 5 cm is compulsory for men. The notice allows a candidate who is dissatisfied with the measurement to file an appeal on the same day.
Physical efficiency test (PET)
The PET is qualifying only. According to the board's September 2026 notice:
- Men: 4.8 km in 25 minutes
- Women: 2.4 km in 14 minutes
Candidates who do not finish within the time are not eligible for recruitment.
Turn the run into training targets
Arithmetic you can check:
- Men: 25 minutes is 1,500 seconds. Over 4.8 km that is 312.5 seconds per km (about 5 min 13 s per km). On a 400 m track, 4.8 km is 12 laps, so the target is 125 seconds per lap.
- Women: 14 minutes is 840 seconds. Over 2.4 km that is 350 seconds per km (5 min 50 s per km). That is 6 laps of 400 m at 140 seconds per lap.
Even pacing matters more than a fast start. If your current lap time is well above the target, build up gradually and seek advice from a qualified coach or doctor, especially if you have any health condition.

Strategy for the next cycle
- Start with the advertisement. Age, qualification, reservation and the written-exam pattern must come from the next notice, not from older guides.
- Aim above the minimum. The 2025 cut-offs show that the shortlist was decided well above the qualifying percentages.
- Train for the physical stages in parallel. The PET and PST come months after the written exam, but fitness takes months to build.
- Measure yourself honestly. Get your height and chest measured by someone else, and time your run over the full distance.
- Keep a dated record. Note every notice you rely on, with its date and number.
For general preparation habits, see our study schedule guide for government exams, and keep dated general-awareness notes with the current affairs hub.
Frequently asked questions
Is the UP Police PET scored?
No. The board describes it as qualifying in nature: you must finish the run within the time, but no marks are added.
Why are the cut-offs not whole numbers?
The written exam was held in six shifts, so the board normalised the marks, which produces decimal scores.
When will the final result come?
The board had not published it by 9 October 2026. Watch uppbpb.gov.in for the final selection notice.
