Jharkhand Government Jobs 2026: JPSC and JSSC Status and Rules

If you are aiming for a Jharkhand state government job in 2026, two commissions matter most: the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC), which runs the Combined Civil Services Examination for posts such as Deputy Collector and Deputy Superintendent of Police, and the Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC), which runs combined examinations for many other state posts.

2026 has been an unusual year for JPSC. Its flagship examination cleared the preliminary stage, but the Main Examination was then postponed "until further orders", and a CID investigation notice was posted on the commission's website. This guide sets out what the official notices say, explains the examination rules, and gives you a checklist for tracking a process whose dates are uncertain.

Checked against notices on jpsc.gov.in and jssc.jharkhand.gov.in on 9 October 2026. Many notices are in Hindi; the summaries below are our translations.

Where things stand (as of 9 October 2026)

We found no JPSC notice rescheduling the CCSE-2025 Main Examination when we checked. If you qualified in the preliminary examination, check the JPSC website directly; do not rely on dates circulating on social media.

The 103 CCSE-2025 vacancies included 28 Deputy Collector and 42 Deputy Superintendent of Police posts, along with smaller numbers of posts such as Probation Officer, Assistant Registrar and Jail Superintendent. JPSC has also run separate "backlog" CCSE recruitments in 2026 (Advt. Nos. 05/2026 and 06/2026), whose Main Examinations were in the postponed calendar.

How the JPSC Combined Civil Services Examination works

Stages

  1. Preliminary Examination: two compulsory objective papers, General Studies I and General Studies II, each of 200 marks and 2 hours. Question papers are set in Hindi and English. The 2026 advertisements say there is no negative marking in the preliminary examination. Roughly 15 times the advertised vacancies in each category are called to the Main Examination.
  2. Main Examination (written): 950 marks across six papers, with no optional subjects.
  3. Interview: 100 marks, for a grand total of 1,050.

Jharkhand-specific content

General Studies Paper II of the preliminary examination is built around Jharkhand. Its syllabus in the 2026 advertisements covers the state's history, the Jharkhand movement, society and culture, folk literature and tribal culture, sports, its economy and geography, industrial and displacement policy, forests, environment and disaster management. It also includes 12 questions on land laws, among them the Chotanagpur Tenancy Act and the Santhal Pargana Tenancy Act. If you are preparing from national-level material alone, this is the gap to close first.

Eligibility in the 2026 CCSE advertisement

  • Age: at least 21 years, with age calculated on 1 August 2026. The upper limit is 35 for unreserved and EWS candidates, 37 for Extremely Backward Classes and Backward Classes, 38 for women of the unreserved, EWS, EBC and BC categories, and 40 for SC and ST candidates. PwBD candidates get 10 years and ex-servicemen 5 years within their category, and candidates with at least three years of regular Jharkhand government service get 5 years.
  • Reservation: the 2026 advertisements state that the benefit of reservation is available only to permanent residents of Jharkhand, on a certificate from the competent state authority. If you are not a permanent resident of Jharkhand, read the advertisement carefully to see how your application will be treated.

Worked age check

Illustrative examples, using age on 1 August 2026:

  • A man in the unreserved category born on 15 March 1993 is 33. That is within the limit of 35.
  • A woman in the Backward Classes category born on 10 June 1989 is 37. That is within the limit of 38 for women in her category.
  • An unreserved man born on 10 June 1989 is also 37, which is above his limit of 35.

Always confirm your category's limit and any special relaxation in the advertisement for the cycle you apply to.

What JSSC recruits

JSSC conducts combined competitive examinations for state posts at different levels. Its 2026 notices include an Intermediate Level combined examination and a Trained Assistant Acharya (para-teacher) examination. In August 2026 it also cancelled a combined examination from 2023 (Advt. Nos. 15 and 16/2023) after the state's Personnel Department withdrew the requisitions. We could not open JSSC's full advertisement list when we checked, so we have not listed vacancy figures for these examinations; read them in the advertisement itself.

Uncertain timelines make a dated record more useful, not less. Keep studying for the published scheme, especially the Jharkhand-specific paper and the Main Examination's six papers, rather than waiting for a new date.
