Freshworks Interview Guide: Values, Role Prep and Practice Answers

Last checked against official sources: 9 October 2026.

Freshworks makes customer service and IT service management software — Freshdesk and Freshservice are the two products named on its About page — and it hires for engineering, product, sales, customer success and corporate roles. Freshworks does not publish a fixed interview sequence or a question bank, and the number of rounds can differ by team and level. The most reliable way to prepare is to work from three things the company does publish: its values, its products and the job description in front of you.

An earlier version of this article quoted unnamed users, a hiring manager and salary bands that we could not verify. We removed them. Everything below either comes from Freshworks' own pages or is clearly labelled as practice material.

Start with the official job listing

Freshworks' careers page links to its job board on SmartRecruiters, with separate listings for Product & Engineering, Sales & Marketing, Customer Service & Success, and Corporate roles. Apply through those links rather than through reposted ads, and keep a copy of the job description: it is your best guide to the skills interviewers will probe. The Freshworks job board shows the location and team for each opening.

Once you are invited, read the invitation closely. It should tell you the format (online assessment, video call or in person), the duration and who you will meet. If it doesn't, ask the recruiter. Prepare for what you are told, not for a round count you read on a forum.

Use the values as your story map

The careers page lists five values:

  • We champion our customers
  • We are empowered to make an impact
  • We set high standards
  • We make bold moves
  • We win as one team

Behavioural questions at product companies tend to test qualities like these, so build one true story for each. The table shows how to map them. The questions are our practice prompts, not confirmed Freshworks questions.

ValuePractice questionWhat a strong story shows
We champion our customersTell me about a time you solved a problem for a user that wasn't in your briefYou noticed the user's pain, checked it, and changed something
We are empowered to make an impactDescribe something you started without being askedInitiative with an observable result
We set high standardsTell me about work you redid because it wasn't good enoughYour quality bar and how you tested it
We make bold movesDescribe a risky decision you made with incomplete informationHow you limited the downside and what you learned
We win as one teamTell me about helping a teammate succeedShared credit and collaboration, not heroics

Write each story in STAR form (situation, task, action, result) and keep it to about two minutes. Our STAR method guide shows how to check each story for overclaiming.

Know the products before you walk in

Freshworks describes Freshdesk as customer service and support software and Freshservice as IT service management software. Spend an hour on each product's public pages (Freshdesk, Freshservice) and answer three questions for yourself:

  1. Who is the user, and what job are they trying to get done?
  2. What is one thing in the product you would improve, and why?
  3. How would the role you are applying for affect that user?

These answers give you material for "why Freshworks?" and for product-sense questions, and they show genuine research without needing any insider knowledge.

Practice questions by role

Software engineering

  • Coding: "Given a list of support tickets, each with a priority and a creation time, return them in the order an agent should handle them." A clean answer sorts by priority and then by creation time. In Python, sorted(tickets, key=lambda t: (t.priority, t.created_at)) handles both in O(n log n), assuming a smaller number means a higher priority. Say that assumption out loud, and offer a heap if tickets arrive continuously.
  • Design: "Design a service that assigns incoming tickets to available agents." Cover the inputs (ticket, required skills, agent availability), the assignment rule (round-robin, skill-based or load-based), what happens when no agent is free (a queue with a timeout and an escalation), and how you avoid assigning one ticket twice (a single writer or an atomic status update).
  • Fundamentals: REST basics, SQL joins and indexes, and how you would debug a slow API endpoint.

Customer success and support

  • "A customer is angry that a fix promised last week hasn't shipped. What do you do on the first call?" Acknowledge the impact, give an honest status, agree on a time for the next update, and escalate internally with the business impact attached.
  • "How would you tell whether a customer is getting value from the product?" Talk about adoption of key features, ticket trends and the customer's own goals, rather than one magic metric.

Sales

  • "Run the first five minutes of a discovery call with a 200-person company evaluating IT service management tools." Ask about current tools, pain points, decision-makers and timelines before pitching anything.

Product management

  • "How would you prioritise three feature requests with one engineering team?" Use an explicit framework — for example reach, impact, confidence and effort — and show your assumptions rather than only the final ranking.

Worked example: a one-page prep sheet

Here is an illustrative prep sheet for a fictional candidate applying for a backend engineering role.

ItemCandidate's entry
Role and team (from the listing)Backend engineer, Product & Engineering
Three skills named in the descriptionJava, REST APIs, SQL
Evidence for each skillCollege project API in Spring Boot; internship fix to a slow SQL report; 40 practice problems solved in Java
Value stories readyCustomers: fixed a confusing form after user feedback. Team: paired with a struggling teammate before a deadline
Product insightFreshdesk: would look at how ticket views behave for agents handling many channels at once
Questions to askHow does the team decide what to build next? What does a good first three months look like?

A sheet like this takes about an hour and covers most of what a first-round interviewer can ask.

Salary and offer questions

We did not find official Freshworks salary data for 2026, so this article does not quote pay bands. If you are asked about expectations, give a researched range and explain what it is based on, then evaluate the written offer component by component. Our guides to salary negotiation and ESOPs and RSUs explain what to check.

Stay safe

Apply only through links on the official careers page. A genuine employer will not ask you to pay for an interview, a training kit or an offer letter. If a message claiming to be from Freshworks asks for money or banking details, don't respond, and report suspected fraud on India's National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal.

Final checklist

  • Read the job description and list the three skills it stresses most.
  • Prepare one true story for each of the five values.
  • Use the Freshdesk or Freshservice pages to form one product opinion.
  • Practise one coding, one design and one role-specific question aloud.
  • Confirm the format and duration of each round from your invitation.
