Percentage = CGPA × 9.5. This multiplier comes from CBSE, which compared subject-wise average marks of candidates against grade points over several years and notified 9.5 as the standard equivalence. So 6.8 CGPA = 64.6%, 7.5 CGPA = 71.25%, 8.2 CGPA = 77.9% and a perfect 10 CGPA = 95%. Most Indian boards, universities and government-job application forms accept this conversion unless the institution prints its own formula on the marksheet.
Some universities define their own conversion — common variants are Percentage = (CGPA − 0.75) × 10 (many technical universities) and Percentage = CGPA × 10 (10-point institutes that treat grade points as direct percentages). If your degree or marksheet mentions a specific formula, that one always wins for official forms. When a government-job form asks for percentage, check the recruiting body's instructions before rounding.
A GPA like 2.68 or 3.19 is on the US-style 4-point scale, not the Indian 10-point scale — multiplying it by 9.5 gives the wrong answer. There is no single official 4-point conversion; a widely used approximation is (GPA ÷ 4) × 100, so 2.68 ≈ 67% and 3.19 ≈ 79.75%, but confirm with the university or evaluation agency (like WES) that will read the result.

7.6 CGPA = 72.2% using the standard CGPA × 9.5 formula. The chart on this page lists every value from 5.0 to 10.0.
8.5 CGPA = 80.75% with the ×9.5 formula — above the 75% cutoff many recruiters and postgraduate programmes use.
The ×9.5 formula only applies to the Indian 10-point scale. For a 4-point GPA the common approximation is (GPA ÷ 4) × 100 — e.g. 3.0 out of 4 ≈ 75% — but always confirm the formula your target university or employer accepts.
