Financial technology is not one job market. These are the main areas hiring in India, and what people in them actually work on.
Payment gateways, UPI and card rails, merchant platforms and the settlement and reconciliation systems that move money between banks.
Loan origination systems, credit assessment and scoring, collections technology and the risk analysis behind a lending decision.
Banking apps, account and card infrastructure, APIs and the customer-service journeys built on top of core banking systems.
Investing and broking platforms, mutual-fund distribution, portfolio tools and the market-data plumbing they depend on.
Financial products offered inside non-financial apps — checkout credit, in-app insurance, payouts — usually delivered through partner APIs.
Compliance, AML and KYC systems, transaction monitoring and regulatory reporting for regulated financial entities.
Distribution and quoting platforms, underwriting workbenches, claims systems, policy administration and customer servicing.
Insurance & AI
Insurance runs on data: risk selection, pricing, claims and servicing are all decisions made from information. That is why technology and AI roles have grown inside insurers, brokers and InsurTech companies. Not every insurer uses all of the techniques below — adoption varies widely by company and line of business — but these are the role types the shift is creating.
Building and deploying models used in pricing, risk selection, claims triage or servicing — and the pipelines and monitoring around them.
Working with policy, claims and exposure data to find patterns that inform pricing, retention, reserving or distribution decisions.
Supporting underwriters with data: risk scoring, portfolio analysis, rule design and measuring how well selection decisions performed.
Straight-through processing for simpler claims, routing and triage logic, and the exception handling that sends complex claims to people.
Detecting suspicious claims and applications with rules, anomaly detection or models, and working alongside investigation teams.
Quantitative work on exposure, catastrophe or portfolio risk, often close to actuarial teams and their reserving and capital work.
Extracting structured data from proposal forms, medical reports, invoices and policy documents so downstream systems can use it.
Assistants and chat interfaces for policy questions, renewals and claims status, with careful handling of regulated information.
The core systems that hold policies through their lifecycle — issuance, endorsements, renewals, cancellation and reporting.
Defining what an insurance product or digital journey should do, working across underwriting, actuarial, operations, legal and engineering.
Building and integrating the applications insurers and intermediaries run — portals, APIs, integrations with insurers and regulators.
Turning regulatory requirements into checks, controls and reporting that run reliably rather than as manual spreadsheets.
Pricing, reserving, valuation and experience analysis. This route requires actuarial examinations alongside technical skills.
Changing track
Many KarmSakha users have spent years preparing for banking and government examinations. That preparation builds real, transferable ability — but it is not a substitute for technical training. Here is an honest reading of where it helps.
| What you already practised | Where it can transfer |
|---|---|
| Quantitative aptitude | Operations roles, Analytics support, Entry-level risk, Financial analysis |
| Reasoning | Fraud operations, Compliance checks, Underwriting support, Risk analysis |
| Economics & current affairs | Financial-services awareness, Banking operations, Market research, Product support |
| Communication & language | Customer success, Sales, Relationship management, Support functions |
Be realistic about the gap. Exam preparation alone does not qualify anyone for a software engineering, data science or actuarial position. Those routes need additional professional skills — programming and system design for engineering, statistics and applied modelling for data science, and the actuarial examinations for actuarial work. Operations, support, sales and junior analytics roles are the realistic first steps, with technical skills built alongside.
What to build
Grouped by the kind of role you are aiming at, not listed for the sake of it.
Insurance-specific knowledge is often taught on the job; IRDAI-recognised certifications such as IC38 cover distribution roles.
Starting out
Entry into these sectors usually happens through operations, servicing and distribution roles rather than through engineering. Not every role is accessible without training — read each listing's stated requirements before applying.

Know the landscape
Useful orientation when you are researching employers or preparing for interviews. Listing a company here is not a statement that it is hiring — every live vacancy on this page comes from actual job data.
Pay
Compensation varies significantly by role, experience, company and city. No range on this page is generated — where a listing shows pay, it is the figure the employer stated, and public-sector listings carry the scale published in the official notification. To compare typical ranges by role, city tier and experience, use the KarmSakha Salary Explorer; its figures are planning estimates, not verified offers.
