How to structure preparation

Tier 1 first — build speed under CBT timing

Start with Tier 1 sections: General Intelligence & Reasoning, General Awareness, Quantitative Aptitude and English. Use free CGL mocks to find weak sections, then drill topic-wise before repeating full tests.

General awareness — static GK plus current affairs

Cover Lucent-style static GK for history, polity, geography and science. Pair with the daily current affairs feed for the last 6–12 months before the exam — do not rely on outdated CA PDFs alone.

Tier 2 orientation — after Tier 1 mock baseline

Tier 2 adds descriptive papers and deeper quant/English. Once Tier 1 mocks score stabilises, shift to Tier 2 syllabus topics listed in the official notification. KarmSakha Tier 2 landing links playable mocks labelled honestly as practice-aligned.

Mock test rhythm — weekly full tests

Attempt one full mock per week in the last 8 weeks before the exam. Review every wrong answer same day. Use the PYQ hub for official paper references — practice sets are labelled separately from verified PYQ.

Strategy FAQ

What is the best SSC CGL preparation strategy for beginners?

Start with NCERT maths basics and one standard book per section. Take a free CGL mock within the first month to identify weak areas, then follow a weekly mock rhythm in the final two months.

Should I join coaching for SSC CGL?

Coaching is optional. Self-paced prep with books, free mocks and structured notes works if you maintain consistency. KarmSakha offers digital prep — mocks, eBooks and notes — not live batches.

Where do I find SSC CGL exam dates and cutoffs?

Check ssc.gov.in and the KarmSakha government jobs feed for live notifications. This guide does not publish cutoff marks — they change every cycle.
