Manufacturing Jobs in Pune: Auto Hubs, Roles and Entry Routes

Pune's manufacturing jobs are spread across industrial belts such as Pimpri-Chinchwad, Chakan and Talegaon, and range from shop-floor and maintenance roles to quality, design and supply-chain work. This guide explains what official sources say about the region, the main job families, the entry routes for ITI, diploma and degree holders, and how to compare two plant offers fairly.

Reviewed on 9 October 2026. Facts come from the official and company sources linked below. Pay figures in the worked example are illustrative only, not salary benchmarks.

What official sources say about Pune manufacturing

The Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) automobile sector page, last updated in April 2026, describes Pune as "the largest auto hub in India with more than 4000 manufacturing and ancillary units in Pimpri-Chinchwad region alone". The same page says Maharashtra accounts for 23% of India's motor-vehicle output and 20% of its parts and accessories output.

MIDC's About page lists the Pune–Chakan–Talegaon–Satara belt in its expanding land bank at 8,000 acres. The sectors named for that belt are data centres, gems and jewellery, engineering, food processing, auto and components, ESDM (electronics) and logistics. The page's land-acquisition plan also names Ranjangaon and Talegaon Phase 4 among planned locations.

So the region is not only about vehicles: MIDC also lists engineering, electronics and food processing for the belt. And MIDC's count of more than 4,000 manufacturing and ancillary units in Pimpri-Chinchwad alone is a reminder that many employers are suppliers, not just the brands on finished vehicles.

Employers and institutions you can check

MIDC's automobile page names three Pune institutions in the auto ecosystem: the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) for R&D, testing and certification; the Auto Cluster Development and Research Institute, which supports MSMEs that supply manufacturers; and the Horiba India Technical Centre, which works on emission measurement systems. ARAI's website gives its registered office in Kothrud, Pune.

A few employer examples confirmed on official company pages:

  • Bajaj Auto's investor page lists works at Akurdi, Pune, and in the Chakan Industrial Area, Pune.
  • Bharat Forge's website lists group companies with addresses in Mundhwa, Pune.
  • Tata Technologies, an engineering and R&D services company, lists an address in Rajiv Gandhi Infotech Park, Hinjawadi. Firms like this hire design and simulation engineers who may never work on a shop floor.

These are examples, not a ranked list. Many suppliers have less familiar names, so search by skill and location, not only by brand.

Entry routes by qualification

ITI holders. Use the government's Apprenticeship Training Portal to register as a candidate and look for apprenticeship openings with establishments. An apprenticeship gives you plant experience to show when you later apply for regular roles.

Diploma and degree holders. The Ministry of Education's National Apprenticeship Training Scheme (NATS) portal carries apprenticeship announcements, such as graduate apprentice engagements. When we checked in October 2026, the portal said candidates become eligible for NATS apprenticeship training only after completing Aadhaar-based e-KYC on NATS 2.0, so do that first.

All job seekers in Maharashtra. The state's Mahaswayam employment portal lets job seekers register and search listed vacancies.

A worked example: compare two plant offers

Plant offers that look similar can differ once transport and employment terms are included. The numbers below are invented to show the method.

ItemOffer AOffer B
LocationChakanTalegaon
Employment typeDirect, on company rollsThrough a contractor
Monthly gross payRs. 21,000Rs. 23,000
Company busYes, freeNo
Your own travel cost per monthRs. 0Rs. 2,600
CanteenSubsidised mealNot provided
Your food cost on shift daysRs. 600 a monthRs. 1,500 a month

Step 1: Subtract costs the offer creates. Offer A: 21,000 − 0 − 600 = Rs. 20,400. Offer B: 23,000 − 2,600 − 1,500 = Rs. 18,900.

Step 2: Compare. Offer A leaves Rs. 1,500 more a month (20,400 − 18,900), even though its gross pay is Rs. 2,000 lower.

Step 3: Add the factors money does not show. Ask both employers about the shift pattern, overtime rules, leave, training and whether contract roles can lead to permanent positions. Check who your legal employer is, because that is who you will deal with for pay, PF and leave.

This example does not include statutory deductions such as PF, which depend on the pay structure. Our guide to salary versus benefits explains how to read a full offer.

Checklist before you join a plant

  • Get the offer in writing with designation, location, shift pattern, pay breakdown and the name of the employing company.
  • Check PF and ESI coverage. After joining, log in to the EPFO member portal with your UAN to confirm that contributions are being credited. If ESI applies to you, details are on the ESIC website.
  • Ask about safety training and PPE before your first shift, and who supplies the equipment.
  • Confirm transport timings for every shift, including the night shift if you will rotate.
  • Never pay to get a job. Report online fraud on the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal.

Frequently asked questions

Is Pune good for mechanical engineering jobs? MIDC describes it as India's largest auto hub, and the region also has engineering and electronics employers. Your prospects still depend on matching your skills to current postings.

Do I need to live near the plant? Not always, but shift timings and bus routes matter more than distance on a map. Confirm the route for each shift before choosing a room.

Is a contractor role worth taking? It can give you experience. Compare it on the full terms, including who employs you, PF coverage and the route to a permanent role, as in the example above.
