Hyderabad is one of India's major technology job markets, but a big headline number does not tell you whether there is a suitable opening for your skills this month. This guide explains what official Telangana sources say about the sector, where employers are concentrated, which kinds of employers hire for which work, and how to run a focused search.
Reviewed on 9 October 2026. Figures are quoted from the Telangana government sources linked below, with their dates. Examples and arithmetic marked "illustrative" are planning aids, not measured data.
What the official figures say
The Telangana IT, Electronics and Communications (ITE&C) Department's Annual Report 2022-23 reported IT/ITeS exports of Rs. 2,41,275 crore for 2022-23, a growth of 31.44% over the previous year. It also reported 1,27,594 jobs added that year, taking total IT/ITeS employment to 9,05,715. The report credits these statistics to STPI Hyderabad and the Development Commissioner, VSEZ.
More recent figures appear on the state's investment portal. The Invest Telangana IT and GCC page, in an ecosystem snapshot dated September 2026, describes Hyderabad as having 500+ Global Capability Centres (GCCs), 300,000+ GCC professionals and a broader IT/ITeS workforce of 939,000+.
Treat these as the government's own description of the sector. They tell you the market is large; they do not tell you how many openings exist for a particular role, level or tech stack. For newer annual figures, check the ITE&C downloads page, which lists the department's annual reports and policies.

The same Invest Telangana page lists Hyderabad's Grade-A office belt as HITEC City, Madhapur, Raidurg, Financial District, Gachibowli, Nanakramguda and Kokapet. If you are shortlisting housing, start from the exact office address in the job posting rather than the broad label "Hyderabad".
The state also promotes IT towers and hubs outside the capital. The 2022-23 annual report names IT towers in Warangal, Karimnagar, Khammam and Mahbubnagar, and Invest Telangana's cluster map adds locations such as Nizamabad, Siddipet, Nalgonda and Adilabad. If you want to work closer to home in a Tier-II town, search for openings that name these locations specifically.
To check a commute, use the L&T Metro Rail Hyderabad network map and then confirm the last-mile journey from the station to the actual building. Our comparison of work-life fit in IT cities shows how to compare routes and office-attendance rules.
Who hires in Hyderabad
Hyderabad's technology employers fall into a few broad groups. The labels are not rigid, and a single company can run more than one kind of centre.
| Employer type | Typical work | What to check before applying |
|---|---|---|
| IT services firms | Client projects in development, testing, support and infrastructure | Which client or project you would join, and the bench policy |
| Global Capability Centres | In-house technology, analytics and business operations for a parent company | Team charter, time-zone overlap and shift timings |
| Product companies and startups | Building and running the company's own software | Funding stage, product maturity and on-call duties |
| Engineering and R&D centres | Embedded, automotive or hardware-related software | Domain skills listed in the JD, such as embedded C or testing tools |
Some named examples from official sources:
- Microsoft's India Development Center says it was set up in Hyderabad in 1998, and lists Hyderabad, Bengaluru and Noida as its locations.
- Invest Telangana names Microsoft, Amazon, Google, Goldman Sachs, Wells Fargo, Salesforce, Deloitte, UBS, Novartis, Micron, Amgen, ServiceNow and T-Mobile as companies with significant operations in the city.
- The 2022-23 annual report records company announcements and inaugurations such as a Bosch Global Software Technologies smart campus, a ZF software hub, an LTIMindtree Digital Experience Centre, a London Stock Exchange Group technology centre and a Warner Bros. Discovery development centre.
An announcement is not a vacancy. Use these names to build a target list, then check each company's own careers page for current openings in Hyderabad.
Skilling and early-career routes
If you are a student or fresher, the state's Telangana Academy for Skill and Knowledge (TASK) is worth knowing. Invest Telangana says more than 800 colleges are registered with TASK and over 100,000 youth have been skilled since it began. Ask your college placement cell whether it is registered and which programmes are open to you.
For startup roles, the state-backed incubator T-Hub runs programmes and events for startups. Treat such events as a way to meet founders and learn which teams are hiring, not as a job guarantee.

A four-week Hyderabad search plan
This plan suits someone with a defined target role, such as a Java backend developer, data analyst or QA engineer.
Week 1: Build a target list. Pick 15 to 20 employers across at least two of the employer types above. For each, open the careers page, filter for Hyderabad and note roles that match at least 70% of the listed skills.
Week 2: Prepare evidence. Rewrite your resume summary and top three bullets for your target role. Add one project or work sample that matches the most common skill in the job descriptions you collected.
Week 3: Apply and reach out. Apply through official careers pages. For each application, find one relevant person, such as an alumnus or a team member, and send a short, specific message. Our guide to networking for a job in India has message templates.
Week 4: Review and adjust. Count what happened and change one thing at a time.
Illustrative tracking arithmetic
Suppose you send 6 applications a week for 4 weeks. That is 6 × 4 = 24 applications. If 3 of them lead to a recruiter or hiring-manager call, your call rate is 3 ÷ 24 = 12.5%, or one call for every 8 applications.
These numbers are invented for the example. Your own rate is what matters. If it is very low, the usual causes are a mismatch between your skills and the roles, or a resume that does not show the skills the JD asks for. Fix those before increasing volume.
Target-employer worksheet
Copy this table into a spreadsheet and fill one row per employer:
| Column | What to record |
|---|---|
| Employer and team | Name, employer type, team or product |
| Office location | Exact locality from the posting, such as Gachibowli or Kokapet |
| Role and level | Title, years of experience asked |
| Skill match | The JD skills you can prove, and the gaps |
| Work pattern | Office days, shift timings, on-call |
| Application route | Careers page link, date applied, referral if any |
| Status | Applied, screening, interview, offer, closed |
Check before you accept
- Confirm the employer is real. Match the recruiter's email domain to the company's official website and check the role on the official careers page.
- Never pay to get a job. Be wary of anyone asking for a "registration", "training" or "security" fee. You can report online fraud on the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal.
- Read the offer in full. Check the location, work pattern, probation terms, notice period and how the CTC breaks down into fixed pay, variable pay and benefits. Our guide to evaluating salary versus benefits explains each component.
- Compare pay with care. Use the city salary comparison guide to weigh a Hyderabad offer against offers in other cities.
Frequently asked questions
Is Hyderabad a good city for IT jobs? State figures show a large IT/ITeS workforce and many GCCs. Whether it is good for you depends on openings in your skill area, the office location and the terms of the specific offer.
Do I need to know Telugu? Check the job description. If a local language is required, for example in a customer-facing or field role, it should be listed there; ask the recruiter if you are unsure.
Where should I live? Decide only after you know the office address and attendance rules. Then compare real routes, travel time and rent for two or three localities.
