To download an Aadhaar card electronically, start from UIDAI's official services and obtain e-Aadhaar. Keep downloading the file separate from correcting its details or deciding whether a particular employer needs it.
This guide uses current official information and original troubleshooting cases. The cases are fictional. No Aadhaar number, OTP or personal PDF was used to test a download, and we do not claim to have completed the portal's authenticated workflow.
Understand the file you are obtaining
UIDAI's Aadhaar Online Services FAQ describes e-Aadhaar as a password-protected electronic copy digitally signed by UIDAI. It lists download using an enrolment number, Aadhaar number or VID, with the download OTP sent to the registered mobile.
The FAQ says e-Aadhaar is equally valid as the physical copy. That statement does not determine a recruitment portal's prescribed upload format or an exam centre's identity instructions. Check the relevant instructions when using the file for a specific purpose.
UIDAI's My Aadhaar hub currently lists e-Aadhaar download as free and identifies mobile OTP for download services. This refers to the electronic download shown there, not every Aadhaar service or an order for a physical PVC card.

Open the official My Aadhaar hub and select the download service it provides. UIDAI's FAQ also links to the MyAadhaar download route. If navigation or controls change, return to the official hub rather than following an advertisement that claims to be a replacement.
Check the address before entering information. A similar-looking name, sponsored result or message containing the word Aadhaar does not establish that a site is UIDAI's service. Use your own trusted device where possible and keep the browser and PDF software appropriately updated.
Do not send your identifier to this blog, a public comment or a person offering to download the file through an unrelated form. You can describe an error without exposing the number, OTP, QR image or actual document.
Follow the options actually displayed
Choose the supported identifier option you have and enter the required information directly on the official service. Read its current instructions and complete its verification steps yourself. Do not guess an enrolment identifier or use someone else's record.
If a masked download option is offered, decide which format you need before proceeding. The masked form conceals the first eight Aadhaar-number digits while showing the final four. It still contains identity information; it is not an anonymous document or a substitute for checking the recipient.
Receive and enter the requested OTP only within the legitimate flow you initiated. Follow the service's expiry and retry instructions. Never give an OTP to someone who contacts you and asks to “complete the download” on your behalf.
When the service offers the file, save it to a private location you can find again. Note which version you downloaded. Do not assume that a new filename means the underlying record has been updated.
Open the PDF using the official password convention
The official FAQ gives the convention as the first four letters of the recorded name in capitals followed by the birth year. It also supplies examples for short names and punctuation. Consult those examples if your recorded name does not fit a simple four-letter assumption; do not invent padding or strip characters blindly.
For an original fictional illustration, a recorded name beginning SNEHA and a birth year of 1994 gives SNEH1994. This is an explanation, not a real person's password. Keep your own password and personal file out of shared troubleshooting messages.
Use suitable PDF software on your device. A preview problem, a password error and a signature-verification warning are different issues. Do not upload the document to an unknown online “unlock” service just to test a password.
Troubleshooting case 1: no OTP appears
In a fictional case, Anil reaches the official download service but does not receive its OTP. He first checks that he initiated the request in the correct service and follows the displayed retry instructions. He avoids repeatedly opening unrelated sites or providing the same identifier to multiple forms.
If access to the registered mobile is the unresolved issue, the next task is obtaining current official guidance about that situation. This guide does not promise an OTP bypass, email substitution or a universal update method. Use UIDAI's support and service information to establish the permitted route for your circumstances.
Record the non-sensitive error wording, time and service page if you need support. Exclude the identifier and any OTP from a general screenshot. A support request should use the information and channel actually required by the official service.
Troubleshooting case 2: the file will not open
In another fictional case, Lata has a downloaded file but sees a password error. She checks the recorded name and birth year against the official convention, then consults UIDAI's examples rather than assuming a nickname or differently spelled application name determines the password.
She also checks whether the download completed and whether she is opening the intended PDF rather than an older copy or another file. If the file is incomplete, she returns to the official service instead of changing its contents or asking a third party to remove protection.
If the issue remains, she uses an appropriate official support route. This case does not establish a fixed retry count or guarantee that every password problem has the same cause. Its purpose is to distinguish record-based password information from file-handling errors.
Troubleshooting case 3: the downloaded record is unchanged
Suppose a fictional applicant recently requested a correction but the downloaded copy still shows the earlier details. Downloading again is not itself a correction request or evidence that the request has been approved.
The applicant checks the relevant official request status and preserves the acknowledgement privately. They do not edit the PDF to make it appear updated or claim approval in a job application simply because a request was submitted.
If a recipient requires corrected information by a deadline, the applicant explains the actual status through the prescribed channel and asks what evidence or alternative is accepted. They do not assume every recruitment allows a pending correction or a later document substitution.
Verify without altering the original
Opening a PDF establishes that you can view it, not that you have independently verified UIDAI's digital signature. Use the official signature guidance linked from the FAQ if you need to validate that signature.
UIDAI's QR-reader information provides an official route for QR verification. Reading arbitrary QR text with an unrelated camera utility is not the same as checking UIDAI's signature. A QR and the document can contain personal attributes even when the Aadhaar number is masked.
Keep the original file intact. Changes, screenshots or converted copies may lose information needed for verification. If a recipient requests a particular upload format, follow the prescribed instructions and retain the official original privately. Do not treat adding a watermark as a guarantee against misuse or as appropriate for every signed-file submission.

Keep a private note of the download date and unresolved issue if useful. Avoid creating unnecessary copies in chat attachments or shared folders. A password-protected PDF can still expose personal information when someone has the password or can view its contents.

Can I download using VID? UIDAI's FAQ lists VID among the download methods. Follow the current option and instructions in the official service; a VID does not remove its verification requirements.
Is masked Aadhaar accepted everywhere? Do not assume universal acceptance. Check the recipient's actual requirements and use the Aadhaar job-document guide to examine purpose, recipient and format.
