SSC GD 2026 Guide: Verified Rules and Practice Scoring

Reviewed: 9 October 2026. This guide uses the official SSC GD 2026 notice and selected later documents. It corrects the earlier “no negative marking” advice: the notice specifies a deduction of 0.25 mark for each wrong answer. Dates below are tied to their source; they are not announcements of an open application or a current physical-test date.

Read the 2026 cycle through dated official evidence

The official notification published on 1 December 2025 covers Constable (GD) in CAPFs and SSF and Rifleman (GD) in Assam Rifles Examination, 2026. It names BSF, CISF, CRPF, ITBP, SSB, SSF and Assam Rifles. Do not add organisations from another recruitment cycle to this list.

The notice's original application period was 1–31 December 2025, with a tentative February–April 2026 written-exam schedule. Later documents matter because an original tentative date is not proof of what subsequently happened.

The 15 June 2026 answer-key notice explicitly records that the Computer Based Examination was conducted from 27 April to 31 May 2026. It describes a tentative-answer-key challenge window from 15 to 20 June. That window is historical, not available simply because the PDF remains online.

The 29 April 2026 medical corrigendum adopts a specified MHA amendment/clarification for the medical examination. Reading only the original notification is therefore insufficient for every later medical-stage instruction.

These are selected verified documents, not a claim that the entire latest result and PET notice chain has been checked. This guide does not certify today's result status, an active application, a PET date or the latest revised vacancy count. Check SSC's official website and the applicable stage instructions for further notices.

Use the correct written-examination structure

Each question carries two marks. Each wrong answer attracts a flat 0.25-mark deduction under the notification. That is not a quarter of the two marks: a quarter would be 0.5, which is a different penalty. Do not follow the removed advice to attempt every item because errors supposedly have no cost.

The paper is at matriculation level. The notice lists English, Hindi and thirteen regional examination languages; the English/Hindi subject is not the same thing as the complete list of examination media. Calculators and other electronic gadgets are not permitted under the notice.

The indicative syllabus includes reasoning and pattern recognition, general awareness and current events, elementary arithmetic and basic English/Hindi comprehension. It is not an official fixed weight for each coaching-book chapter. Use the notice's subject descriptions when organising revision.

Check eligibility against the actual cutoff and documents

The ordinary age range is 18–23 years as of 1 January 2026, with inclusive birth dates from 2 January 2003 to 1 January 2008. The notice includes specific category relaxations; this ordinary range is not an exhaustive eligibility finding. Its nationality clause requires Indian citizenship, and domicile/PRC conditions matter for the state, territory and area allocation provisions.

Matriculation or Class 10 from a recognised board or university must have been passed by 1 January 2026. The notice requires the result to have been declared by that cutoff. Merely having a result under processing is insufficient. A graduate still needs to meet the applicable qualification, age and other conditions; a higher qualification does not waive them.

Maintain a record of the document, issue or result date, claimed category and applicable clause. Submission of an application or receipt of an admission certificate does not establish that every condition has been verified. The notice describes later documentary scrutiny.

The original vacancy figures are explicitly tentative. This guide does not convert them into a fixed annual recruitment promise. Likewise, a listed pay scale is not a take-home salary, promotion timetable or pension guarantee.

Distinguish physical standards from a training prescription

The notification specifies the following PET race conditions:

Applicable regionMaleFemale
Other than Ladakh5 km in 24 minutes1.6 km in 8½ minutes
Ladakh1.6 km in 7 minutes800 metres in 5 minutes

Ordinary height is 170 cm for males and 157 cm for females; the ordinary male chest requirement is 80 cm unexpanded with at least 5 cm expansion. These are not every candidate's standards. The notice has separate height and chest relaxation tables for specified categories, communities and regions. Do not merge “hill,” “North East” and all reserved categories into one eligibility row.

The applicable certificate and geography clauses must support a relaxation claim. The notice distinguishes ST documentation from specified other relaxation certificates. Ex-servicemen are exempt from PET/PST but must attend for measurements for record purposes and qualify medical examination; the notice says no race is held for those ex-servicemen.

The medical corrigendum preserves measurement recording and assigns weight assessment to the medical stage; it is not a waiver of standards. This article does not decide an individual's medical fitness or prescribe a generic daily running programme. Read the applicable notice, corrigendum and call-letter instructions for your stage.

Interpret scores without inventing a safe cutoff

The notice describes normalised CBE scores, applicable NCC bonuses and qualifying physical, medical and document stages. Minimum qualifying percentages are 30% for UR, 25% for OBC/EWS and 20% for other categories, excluding NCC bonus for that minimum condition. These percentages are not guaranteed selection cutoffs.

The notification's NCC incentives are 5%, 3% and 2% of maximum examination marks for C, B and A certificates respectively, subject to the claim, certificate and date conditions. On a maximum of 160, those amounts are 8, 4.8 and 3.2 marks. A certificate label in a practice worksheet does not establish an accepted claim.

Final allocation depends on the notice's merit, force-preference, state/area/category and qualifying-stage rules. A raw mock score cannot establish the official normalised score, future cutoff, allocation or appointment.

Work through an original 80-item practice ledger

This complete fictional response summary is created for arithmetic practice. It is not an SSC question paper, candidate result or normalisation calculation.

PartCorrectWrongBlankTotal
Reasoning153220
General awareness115420
Mathematics134320
Language162220
Total55141180

For this simplified original exercise, raw marks are (55 × 2) − (14 × 0.25) = 110 − 3.5 = 106.5 out of 160. Attempted-question accuracy is 55 ÷ 69 × 100, approximately 79.71%. That denominator is attempts, not all eighty items.

The incorrect “no penalty” calculation would show 110. The incorrect “quarter of two marks” calculation would show 103. Neither matches the specified flat penalty. This arithmetic does not reproduce final-key/discarded-item adjustments or official normalisation.

The June notice limits saved question papers to personal use and self-analysis. The examples here do not copy those papers or turn them into a public question bank.

Practise a concept and inspect the error

Original mathematics item: a fictional item costs ₹750 and receives a 12% discount. The discount is ₹750 × 12 ÷ 100 = ₹90, so the discounted price is ₹660. A solution that subtracts twelve rupees confuses a percentage with a cash amount.

Original reasoning item: use the explicitly stated rule “add three to obtain the next number.” From 4, 7 and 10, the next number under that rule is 13. The rule is supplied; the exercise does not claim that a short numerical sequence has only one mathematically possible continuation.

After checking a practice set, label each error: concept, misreading, calculation, unsupported guess or time management. In the fictional ledger, general awareness has five wrong and four blank responses, but those totals alone do not identify why. Review the actual original items before choosing the next task.

Use available mock tests only after checking the test's format and content. A catalogue link is not a claim that every test follows this cycle or contains official licensed previous-year questions. Review current-affairs sources and dates rather than treating an arbitrary number of months as an official syllabus boundary.

Common SSC GD questions

Is there negative marking? Yes: the 2026 notice specifies 0.25 mark per wrong answer.

Does meeting the minimum qualifying percentage secure selection? No. Merit, applicable bonuses, allocation and other qualifying conditions still matter.

Are PET requirements identical for all regions? No. The notice distinguishes Ladakh and describes other physical-standard exceptions and certificates.

Is a current result or PET date confirmed here? No. The dated documents establish the facts described above; check later official instructions for current status.
