SSC GD Exam Guide: Official 2026 Pattern and Dated Updates

Editorially revised on 9 October 2026.

Prepare from the exact SSC GD cycle and its updates

This SSC GD guide retains its existing 2025 URL while reviewing the official 2026 cycle. It provides a dated notice record, the verified written-paper pattern and an original practice ledger. It does not announce an open application window, certify the latest result stage or predict a selection cutoff.

The primary source is the SSC GD 2026 notice issued on 1 December 2025. It covers CAPF/SSF constable and Assam Rifles rifleman recruitment. This particular notice should not be merged with another year's result, another post or a coaching prediction.

For current official navigation, use SSC. The dated updates below are selected documents verified for this review, not a complete latest-stage timeline. An old calendar, saved admit-card instruction or application link does not establish a new opportunity to apply.

Check eligibility and stages against the notice

The cited notice requires Indian citizenship and recognised-board matriculation passed by 1 January 2026. Its ordinary age range is 18–23 on that date, with specified category relaxations and document conditions. Read the applicable clauses; this summary does not determine an individual's eligibility.

The process includes the computer-based paper, physical standards and efficiency, medical examination and document verification. Selection also depends on the stated normalisation, applicable verified NCC provisions and other qualifying conditions. A practice raw score is not a final merit result.

Do not replace a qualification reference date with today's date. Keep a real eligibility record separate from a study record. If a requirement, relaxation or certificate condition is unclear, locate the actual official clause rather than relying on a generic table from another cycle.

Use the verified written-paper pattern

The notice's written-paper scheme provides four sections, 80 questions, 160 marks and 60 minutes. Correct answers carry 2 marks and each wrong answer deducts 0.25 marks. The paper is at matriculation level. The earlier claim of no negative marking was incorrect.

Section focusQuestions and maximum marks
Reasoning20 questions; 40 marks.
General knowledge and awareness20 questions; 40 marks.
Elementary mathematics20 questions; 40 marks.
English or Hindi20 questions; 40 marks.

Use the actual notice's indicative syllabus when choosing topics. A practice-topic list is not a forecast of how many questions a topic will receive. This guide makes no claim about a fixed current-affairs look-back period, the easiest section or an annual number of vacancies.

Read selected later documents in date order

The 17 February 2026 notice deferred the then-planned 23 February start. That was a dated change, not the final scheduling document.

The 11 April 2026 schedule scheduled the paper from 27 April through the end of May, with specified weekly windows. Its week-preference facility was dated 11–15 April. These past dates do not describe an active preference window today.

The 24 April 2026 addendum adopted the attached answer-key challenge guidelines dated 10 April. Check the actually applicable key and official response process; a challenge does not guarantee an altered answer or mean an objection facility is currently open.

The 29 April 2026 medical corrigendum applies an attached MHA amendment dated 9 March. Read it with the medical source chain rather than using the older notice alone.

The 22 May 2026 notice changed the concerned candidates' 28 May examination to 27 May. It was a limited change, not a replacement schedule for every candidate. Keep the affected scope beside the date when recording an update.

Build an original section-level practice record

In this fictional exercise, Mohan works through an author-created 80-question practice set organised into the four section sizes above. It is not an official SSC paper or a reproduced previous-year paper. The following counts are supplied exercise results, not a real candidate's examination record.

He records each section's correct, wrong and unattempted counts. Reasoning has 14 correct, 4 wrong and 2 unattempted. Awareness has 10 correct, 5 wrong and 5 unattempted. Mathematics has 12 correct, 5 wrong and 3 unattempted. Language has 16 correct, 2 wrong and 2 unattempted.

Each section totals 20 questions. Across the whole exercise, there are 52 correct, 16 wrong and 12 unattempted, totalling 80. Using the stated marking rule for this original arithmetic exercise, the raw mark calculation is 52 × 2 − 16 × 0.25 = 104 − 4 = 100 out of 160.

The section raw marks are 27 for reasoning, 18.75 for awareness, 22.75 for mathematics and 31.5 for language. Their sum is 100. The 12 unattempted questions do not become wrong answers, and no NCC bonus or normalisation has been applied in this exercise.

This is a raw-score demonstration only. It is not an official mark, normalised result, category cutoff, shortlist prediction or selection decision. Do not compare it with an unsourced “safe score” and infer that Mohan would pass a real cycle.

Turn an error into a bounded correction task

Mohan's original mathematics log includes a fictional question asking for the remaining price after a 25% discount on ₹240. His initial response was ₹60. That is the discount amount, not the remaining price: 25% of ₹240 is ₹60, so the remaining price is ₹180.

The correction task is to write both amounts and label which one the question requests. This is an original arithmetic example, not a question extracted from SSC material. A correct explanation of this example does not establish mastery of every percentage problem.

A separate original revisit asks for the remaining price after a 10% discount on ₹350. The discount is ₹35 and the remaining price is ₹315. The exercise supplies that Mohan writes both values correctly on the revisit. That is one checked response, not a claim of long-term retention, improved exam marks or selection.

For another section, an error log should name the actual problem in the response: a missed condition, an unsupported knowledge answer or a misunderstood language instruction. Do not invent a cause such as poor confidence or a specific learning disorder from a wrong response. Choose a practice task that addresses what the record actually shows.

Organise preparation by coverage and available evidence

Create a coverage list from the official indicative syllabus, then record what you have practised and what remains unchecked. For each practice item, preserve the prompt, your first response, the available answer basis and the correction. An unread answer key or a generic explanation should not be labelled official.

Use a timed practice window only when you have deliberately selected it and recorded the conditions. A private practice session with notes, pauses or tools is different from the actual assessment. Do not claim the real format was simulated exactly unless its requirements and your session record support that claim.

The SSC GD digital mock-test landing can help you inspect available practice by its stated scope. Check the actual test description and rules. This link does not promise live coaching, official questions or a newly invented study PDF. The current-affairs hub is a separate reading resource, not an official SSC syllabus or a claim that every displayed item will be examined.

Keep physical and medical preparation within the actual instructions

Read the applicable physical clauses and any category-specific provisions directly. This guide supplies no universal running prescription, medical self-assessment or clinical advice. A written-practice result does not establish that a candidate has qualified another stage.

For the notice-to-guideline chain and adopted medical amendment, see medical examination standards for government jobs. Use the actual call letter, intimation and responsible authority's instructions for a real reporting or review event. An old blog table cannot decide fitness.

Keep study progress, document readiness and official stage results separate. Mohan's fictional ledger contains a raw practice total and one corrected arithmetic revisit. It contains no application, call letter, physical result, medical result or appointment.

Frequently asked questions

Is there negative marking in the cited SSC GD 2026 paper?

Yes. The cited scheme deducts 0.25 marks for each wrong answer. Do not use the removed no-deduction claim.

Does 100 in the exercise predict shortlisting?

No. It is original raw-score arithmetic with no normalisation, applicable bonus or actual selection decision.

Are the listed April and May dates current opportunities?

They are selected past official updates. Check current official SSC notices for the actual stage or facility relevant to you.

Is the discount example an official previous-year question?

No. Both discount examples are author-original practice questions with checked arithmetic.
