The Commando Wing of Haryana Police was established in 1988-89 to meet anti-terror operational requirements. Candidates are selected with higher physical standards and undergo specialized intensive training at the Commando Training School in Panchkula after basic constable training. Commandos are trained in self-defense, field craft, tactics, and handling of semi-automatic weapons and explosives. To maintain a young force, commandos are transferred to district police upon reaching the age of 30. The Commando Wing operates under the Inspector General of Police, Railways (H), and supports district police in maintaining law and order, counter-terrorism, election duties, and other government-assigned tasks. Currently, there is one active commando battalion.
