The Government of India, Ministry of Home Affairs, has appointed several officers as Executive Magistrates in Lakshadweep. The appointments are made under the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973. The officers will exercise all or any of the powers exercisable by an Executive Magistrate under the said code. They will also be empowered to exercise the powers specified under sections 107, 108, 109, 110, 133, 143, 144, 174, and 176 of the said code. The appointments are effective from the date on which the officers take over charge and remain till such period they hold the charge of Deputy Collector, Sub Divisional Officer, or Assistant Engineer.
