Overview
Reading Comprehension (RC) is the highest-weightage topic in the IBPS PO English Language section. In Prelims, expect 7-10 questions from a single passage (out of 30 English questions). In Mains, RC carries even more weight with 2 passages and up to 15 questions. The passages in IBPS PO are typically drawn from economic surveys, banking reforms, technology in finance, social development, and editorial opinions from newspapers like The Hindu, Economic Times, and Mint.
Unlike other competitive exams, IBPS PO RC passages are moderate in length (400-600 words in Prelims, 600-900 words in Mains) and test not just literal comprehension but also inference, vocabulary in context, tone/attitude of the author, and the main idea. Since 2022, IBPS has introduced "new pattern" RC questions like sentence rearrangement within passages and critical reasoning-based questions.
